FINANCIAL EDUCATION TRAINING TO FAULU KENYA CLIENTS PROJECT
Training manual localization and training of clients
In 2009, Africa Turnaround was severally contracted by Faulu Advisory to provide Financial Education to clients of Faulu Kenya Deposit Taking Micro Finance. Faulu Advisory in conjunction with Faulu Kenya undertook a funded Financial Education project in Kenya which was part of pilot projects being carried out to determine national FE strategy for Kenya.
Africa Turnaround was also contracted as the Financial Education consultants to help revise, redesign and adapt the MFO curriculum. The assignment involved creating a module on Investing from scratch. The MFO based Trainer's manual was being adapted to the local context in order to effectively address the needs of trainees. Elewa Pesa, the new curriculum, became the first ever comprehensive FE curriculum tailor made to the Kenyan market.
The Elewa Pesa project was so successful and highly rated and as a result, Africa Turnaround was strongly recommended by the project funders to work with MFO in the Equity project undertaken in Kenya the following year, 2010.
Our work in the curriculum review, redesign and adaptation entailed the following tasks:
- Review of the MFO manuals and project baseline survey findings and other project documents
- Conducting a 3-day curriculum redesign and adaptation workshop with project implementers
- Developing a 3-in-1 curriculum with 3 stand alone manuals as follows:
- Trainer's manual- we created a module on investing from scratch
- Participants' notes
- A mentor's kit
- Designing the 3-in-1 manual included: content review and development; editing; designing illustrations; formatting and graphics design, cover design.
- Programme branding
- Advising on implementation strategy
